Reflections of Hilario

This series of ten pastel drawings was inspired by the experiences my great, great uncle, Hilario (pronounced ee LAHR ee o), documented in original cartoons and letters while imprisoned during the Spanish Civil War (1936 - 1939). Rather than repeat his process of recording the actual events through cartoon drawings, the approach of these images was to create traditional drawings depicting the emotional and psychological turmoil he endured at the time.
